Karaoke at the Carters'

Left to right: Troy, Nick, Col, Cameron, and Nate (holding the apple juice)

I think we are getting a little too good at this karaoke thing.
Tonight we had several highs and even a few lows.

For most of the night the high score was held by Nick with "Happy Together". Nick was dethroned by Troy and I singing a chilling rendition of "It's Your Love". Later that score was topped by Troy singing, once again, "It's Your Love". I guess he really likes that song. It may have helped that he stopped after the first 6 words.

The Carter Family

You shoulda got 'em whilst they were hot--because now they're not! I just read at azcentral.com that the six Krispy Kreme stores in Arizona closed. Apparently, they went teats-up (that is a movie term, not a disrespectful commentary on my part) and did not have the dough to continue operations. I think it has been years since I had one of these. Oh, they were good, but drippy right down to the elbows with grease. I can only imagine the hole in people's lives when they consider how empty their lives are going to be without these thigh-packers.

Testing... testing...

okay, we'll see if this works this time! Just wanted to announce that Allison's last soccer game of the season is this evening at 6:30pm. So, if you're not busy and would like to come out to the Y and roast with us and see how cute she is in her soccer uniform, you're welcome!

The ones who bake.

A lady at work today was talking about an LDS funeral she attended and in mentioning the food that was so generously provided she said, "What is the name of the ones who bake?"

I didn't quite understand, so she clarified saying "You know, the bakers. The group in your church that is in charge of cooking. Relief something?"

It IS an effective form of advertising!

We were driving down Camelback and 12th st today and Nathan said, "Mom look at that car on the roof, Wow!" We drove a little further past a wavy armed Uncle Sam and Nathan said, "Mom look at that guy, I want to go there."

I rest my case.

Crowded beach...glad we are here in AZ

Just saw this picture...Thank goodness we are not at the beach this summer - it's packed!! Hopefully next year won't be so crowded.

I met David Spade...

...'s Dad. Elipses can be dangerous things.

In college, I worked as a bank teller at Bank of America. You all know that David Spade is from Scottsdale. Well, his dad used to come in to our bank. He didn't have an account with us, but he cashed checks drawn on the bank. So, it was required that he place a fingerprint on each check that he cashed.

I guess he is estranged from David aka Dickie Roberts and Joe Dirt. But that didn't stop him from telling everyone within earshot who his son was!

The Carter Family

I told Brooke that my brother once saw Alan Hale, the captain on Gilligan's Island at a Prime Rib Restaurant in Los Angeles.

Brooke's reply: "That is nothing, I have been married to his look-alike for 33 years.

And all this time, I thought I looked like the young blond kid on The Dukes of Hazzard.

Go figure!

Wow Colman thats impressive

The only famous person I have ever run into was two characters from California Dreams (an imitation of Saved by the Bell that came out when they went off the air). I dont remember their names but I was at Disney land walking backward, and turned around right into the chest of the chinese girl and the slater like guy on the left. Of course it wasnt until later that day that I figured out why they looked familiar. Big stars I know.

Famous people I've seen this year.

Who: Sean Marion

Where: Costco

Interesting thing to note: He was about 4 feet taller than anyone else in the entire building.

Who: Steve Nash

Where: Target

Interesting thing to note: He's even greasier in person. He looked like he hadn't showered in 12 days and he asked me "Hey man, where do they keep the camping gear in this place?"

Who: Charles Barkley

Where: Home Depot

Interesting thing to note: He is the biggest man I have ever seen.

Who: Mike Tyson

Where: This morning driving in his car. He stopped next to me at a stoplight.

Interesting thing to note: I recognized him from his eye tattoo. He turned and stared at me and I almost peed my pants I was so scared.

Cheeky Monkey

I admit, the main reason I'm posting this is the "come hither" stare was starting to give me the heebie jeebies.

July 1, 2006 Heber, AZ

Better late than never. Here is our contribution from the 4th of July...

Who is that blue-eyed devil, with that "come hither" stare?

(l-r) Court, Nate, Troy and Tiffany

Which family is most likely to make the cover of the Saturday Evening Post?

The Marx family (led by Michael's flag shirt)?

The Carter family (Led by my Cap'n Jack hat)? Be honest, am I wearing the hat, or is the hat wearing me?

We are the Champions!

I did it... I beat the high score on Carl's karaoke machine. I got a score of 94.

It didn't last long though. A minute later Carl got a 95.

He's always trying to steal my thunder.

92! High Score

Shellie and I got the high score on the karaoke last night with Groovy kind of love. And it was groovy.

Survival Man 2006.

This weekend is probably the last chance we will have to get out of town before school starts. Aubrey and Emiliegh are going up to the cabin. Where will Drew and I be? That's a great question.

We will be surviving on our own in the forest, miles away from any civilization, and without any gear. We get dropped off Saturday morning and will hike back to the cabin on Sunday afternoon. The only thing I get to bring is a knife, a fishing pole, and some matches. This weekend I will be a mountain man. It seems that I shaved my beard a little too soon.

Pacifier pinata

Here is another picture I thought I would share. This game lasted us almost the full 12 hours on the way home from Utah. It started because I got a little sick (literally) of turning around and digging for a dropped pacifier. So I tied it to a string and then got a little creative. Nathan thought it was hysterical and enjoyed pulling the string a couple of times.

I just love this picture

I have this as my backdrop on my computer and just thought I would share it.

Curiosity killed the cockroach.

I am posting this in case anyone else was as curious as I was to know what Adeline's face was covering.

Fiesta Olé!

We hope you can all be present when Adeline Elle Carter is blessed this Sunday at the El Dorado ward. The building is at 2202 N 74th St. in Scottsdale, and the services start at 1:00 p.m. You are all also invited to a fiesta after where we will be celebrating both Addie's blessing and Carl's birthday. It will be held at Carl & Brooke's home Sunday at 5:00 p.m.

You'll have to forgive this "sweetest photo crop ever". I'm very limited in my resources at present. But, in my opinion, nothing says "Olé!" like a really badly edited photo.

Poppie's newzzzzz

Whomever wants to play lumberjack on Saturday, we are having a railroad tie removal party. We need to get the ties out of our yard and to the front of the house to have the removed in order to get the landscapers to bring in new plans for a wonderful yard. We are excited about the prospect of shade, greener grass, flowers, vegetables, hummingbirds, sweet birds singing and music ringing through the grove. It will be a shady woodland indeed.

Plans are in the process now and work will begin in a couple of weeks. We should have a yard worthy of the high esteem we have of ourselves. I am using the ATV's to pull them out if anyone wants to play. Look out, Earl, our yard will become the envy of the neighborhood.

By the way, if anyone wants the old washing machine and freezer we store in the front yard, come and get them.

Poppie's newzzzzz

There is a new Karaoke system at the Carter home. All are invited to select from the 1700 songs and belt one out. We think we can make a CD and peddle it on the internet. We have the talent, just need a CD cover and a name for CD.

Suggestions, anyone? Anything to do with "corn-cob" is out, as that was our theme for Christmas a couple of years back.

I know that face anywhere!

So, I was looking through old emails and found this picture that Nick had forwarded me in September 2004 when he first got his picture phone....Enjoy!

It could always be worse.

I think these boys are about Nathan and Jacob's ages....

Why is the blog all messed up so the right hand information is at the very bottom? Can anyone fix it?

Nathan has been working on this for a long time.

Poppie's newzzzzz

July 15 is coming sooner than you think. Here is some good advice for all:

1. Spend any amount you wish (except Brooke) but keep your gift a secret.
2. Do not worry about how much your gift to me will cost. I will be the judge if you are cheap or not.
3. Make it special. If is something that I want, I will let you know. If not, well.....
4. It is not necessarily true that the more you spend, the more you love me. However, I will take that under advisement.
5. You are a dummy if you spend more than $5. There are plenty of nifty giffs for $5 or under.

The Grand Finale.

This is the last minute or so of the Idaho Falls fireworks show. It was quite the entertaining event. Those Idahoans love the USA. My only complaint is that they seem to have left Neil Diamond off the play list.

Dirty everything you can.

Can you tell we didn't get a "One, two, three cheese" ?

The quote of the day was from Carl who stated "The thing is.... I knew I couldn't eat this second waffle, but I have to dirty everything I can."

Poppie's newzzzzz

A long day that began in SLC with family and ended up in a hotel eating Cummin's chocolate covered fruit as supplied by Cameron and Robyn.
My only girl will be having a birthday on July 2. But, forget about that, because just 13 days later, the holy day will be here. Let's all be realistic about it. Age 56 has its drawbacks, but it has it's advantages also. For example, I do not have to worry about turning 30, 40, or 50 again.

This is Pinky.

This is the Kemsley kids at Summer's rehearsal dinner. They know who Pinky is. We all know who Pinky is.

A couple of beach houses

Here are a couple of beach houses. I was not location (other than So-Cal) or budget specific, as there were no constraints given for each.

Oceanside – cool 3 story

San Clemente – Looks like a very nice house

Crazy Nathan.

I just don't know what to think about this one. Adeline looks a bit confused too.

The Many Faces of Nick Carter

Many of you know that I worked for Bank of America while attending ASU. As a teller, I would engage in friendly conversation with our regular customers. I was constantly subjected to questions regarding the other 2/3 of my name triplet / trifecta:

1. The boy...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nick_Carter_(singer)

2. The 19th century master detective and adventurer...

http://www.thrillingdetective.com/carter.html

He first appeared as a 19th century detective and adventurer, in Street and Smith's New York Weekly dime novel, on September 18, 1886. He was young, strong, dedicated to clean living (no cigarettes! no booze!) confident, a master of disguise, and possessor of a keen mind, filled with more trivia than anyone would ever need to know (except, of course, for dime novel master sleuths!) and was usually accompanied by his loyal (and manly) partners-in-arms Patsy and Scrubby. He appeared in three stories written by Coryell, and then, literally thousands more in various Street & Smith publications, mostly written by Frederic van Rensselaer Day (1862-1922).

Yes Col, you do have a name twin.

Col told me he didn't have a name twin, but I found him. Col, meet Col Billy Jack Carter.

Shout out from Snowflake

Hey Y'all. We are still hanging out in Snowflake, AZ. The wedding was very nice. We went through the temple with the whole family for Brie's endowment session. The session was supposed to start at 10 AM, but one of the ne'erdowells on the other side of the family took his sweet time in strolling into the room. 40 people waiting on one guy. I just shook my head.

Just as the session started. Shellie's sister passed out some wrapped, hard candy all along her row. I swear, it was full on crinkle-crackle of wrappers for the first ten minutes of the session. I looked back to see who was the culprit, but the ladies were to nonchalant about sneaking the candies into their mouths.

Guy is still wearing his jumpsuits. I'll see if I can get a picture.

Here are pictures of Manda doing what she does best - entertain! She loves gym class, and sometimes actually does what her teacher tells her.

Everything is always punctuated with a hearty "tah dah!"

Ready for a swim.

We decided to take Courtney's advice and get some goggles. We'll let you know how it turns out.

Now we're on the lookout for an orange pacifier.

A real gem.

I was playing the "next blog" game and stumbled upon this treasure. Just had to share.

Yes, that is a sheep playing tetherball.

Hill not Hall...

I wonder if this is where Tiffany and Troy got the idea to name their baby Audrey Sage Hill?

Pretty sweet graphics I might add.

We've got competition.

So I just found out the Davis family has their own blog. I know, I know dad, "but they aren't Carters"....just wanted to let you all know we can interrupt their posts with obnoxious comments from the outside. haha....just kidding. It is a great idea...wonder where they got it : )? Hopefully they get more of a response from their family (including parents, mom and dad!) rather than just 5 out of how many people! I know others have more to say! So go ahead. Post something.

Happy Birthday Aubrey

Today is Aubrey's birthday. Can you believe all of the things she has done so far in her life? She is a college graduate, has been married for two years, has a baby, lived in Europe and Canada for several years, and she touched Kevin Bacon's arm. All of this before the age of 23. Happy 23rd Aub!

The tail end of the story...

So some of our friends came over today when they were in the area to hang out and check out the baby's room...One of them sat in the upholstered rocker/glider and left her mark! Who is this? Mrs. Corderoy pants you know who you are!

The Thinker

What's in a name anyway?

So being pregnant, I am curious as to what other people are naming their babies. A saleswoman at Walmart yesterday was asking me when I was due, what I was having, yaddee yaddah... Then she said her daughter was having a baby boy in 2 weeks! I asked her if they had a name picked out and she replied, "oh yes, it is Brian Keef the 2nd, after his dad." After a minute of thinking I repeated, "Brian Keith?" She acknowledged that I was correct. Oh wow....this poor little Brian Keef who will grow up in a confused world not knowing how exactly to pronounce his name. He will have success in singing the infamous "Happy Birfday" that Nick always throws out at every family birthday dinner.

They are going to be famous!

I don't know how many of ya'll have seen Allison's & Manda's most recent pix from Sears, but they are stinking cute!

So cute, in fact, that we got a call from Sears informing us that they would like permission to blow up the pictures and display it on their portrait studio wall! We'll see if it actually happens, but this is definitely a step to stardom.

Who know's maybe they can get on with Disney - like Britney and Christina. A parent can only hope! BTW Allison can sign autographs, but Manda can only scrawl an unintelligible mark.

Sunday, June 04, 2006

Don't worry.

My blog is finally updated. You can all sleep better now.
